Directions for Making a Quilt Print E-mail

1.         All quilts should be sewn and quilted on a MACHINE. Please, no hand tied or hand stitched quilts.

2.         SIZE: Crib or lap. You may decide the exact size, but the maximum dimensions should not exceed twin size. We also need small quilts for NICU Babies (can be as small as a placemat). This is an excellent way to utilize spare quilt blocks.

PATTERN SUGGESTIONS: The only rule is that it is a patchwork and not two pieces

front and back sewn together like a comforter. Whatever makes your heart sing.

BATTING: Use only ONE layer of LOW LOFT 1/8” – 1/4” thick, cotton or poly/cotton.  Needled cotton is wonderful to work with - will not bunch or “migrate”, but is also a little more expensive. Both are available at most retailers.

BACKING and BINDING: We use a larger piece of fabric that coordinates with the front patchwork, or several sample sizes that can be sewn together for a back. Please use a coordinating color of your choice for the binding.

THREAD: Cotton or a cotton blend thread is recommended for construction of the quilt. DO NOT USE INVISIBLE THREAD. Invisible Thread is not heat resistant and it is not recommended for industrial/hospital dryers.

4.         LABEL: A label is included in all kits. Please sew on all four sides of the BACK (bottom)    of the quilt. Please DO NOT tuck the label into the seam.

5.         Please SIGN the back of the quilt with a permanent ink marking pin.

6.         Wash and dry your quilt (without fabric softener) so that it is ready to be gifted.

7.         FILL IT WITH LOVE! It really does shine through.

8.         DO NOT ADD EMBELLISHMENTS! The quilts should not have buttons, long strings, loops, sequins, rhinestones or other things that could create a choking hazard.

9.         A central drop-off has been established at the Quilt Sampler located at 6024 South Sheridan, Tulsa, Oklahoma (918) 493-3388, for the return of finished quilts and fabric remnants.

In order to assist in the allocation of quilt kits, your finished quilt should be returned to the same source where the kit was originally picked up.

Your quilt will bring joy and comfort to a child in crisis.   Thank you for your support.
