Four Block Quilt Print

Tulsa Quilts for Kids- Block with Four Square – (Approx 36 x 48)

This is a quick and simple quilt to make. Seam Allowance is ¼” for all seams.

Four Block Quilt

 

Fabric Requirements

 

Fabric A           ½ yard- [12 – 6 ½” squares]

Fabric B 1/3 yd - [3 – 3 ½” strips x WOF]

Fabric C 1/3 yd - [3 - 3 ½” strips x WOF]

 

Border Fabrics:

1st   (Inside)      1/3 yd - [4 - 2 ½” x WOF]

2nd (Outside)5/8 yd - [4 - 4 ½” x WOF]

 

Binding    ½ yd [5 strips cut 2 ½” x WOF]

Backing   1 ½” yd [44”/45” fabric]

 

1.   Sew strip sets together – Fabric B to Fabric C – pressing to the darker fabric.     Cut the strip sets vertically into 3 ½” segments. Sew two segments together to         make the four-square block as shown for a total of 12 blocks measuring

      6 ½” x 6 ½”.

2.  After the Four Square blocks are sewn together, lay out your pattern with the 6 ½” (Fabric A) squares in an alternating fashion. You should have 6 rows               down with 4 squares across.

 

**IF your Four Square Blocks are smaller than 6 ½” x 6 ½” trim the Fabric A squares to match the size of the four-square block so all blocks will be the same.

 

3.  Sew each row together matching the seams. Press.

 

4.  Sew the 2 ½” borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top, trimming the   excess fabric even with the rest of the quilt top. Repeat for the left     and     right sides, piecing as necessary.

 

5.  Sew the 4 ½” borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top, trimming the   excess fabric even with the rest of the quilt top. Repeat for the left     and     right sides, piecing as necessary.

 

6.  Layer the quilt top over low loft cotton batting and backing. Quilt as you     desire.   Remember that this quilt will be loved and washed a lot, so make sure there is enough quilting to hold the quilt together for a long time.     Apply binding.

 

7.  Wash and dry the completed quilt. (Please do not use fabric softener).

 

8.  A central drop-off has been established at the Quilt Sampler located at 6024 South Sheridan, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74135 (918) 493-3388 for the  return of the completed quilt along with any fabric remnants.
